SIDEWIND HOUSE

This house, located at the edge of Seaside in Florida, was designed in a materiality consistent with Florida vencular and takes advantage of three major orientations on the site: the street, the creek, and the gulf. Each of these orientations is encountered in a side windling navigation through the site and the spaces of the house. A trellis defining the courtyard provides privacy to the inhabitants, a sensitive screen for parked cars, and a seductive entry sequence from the street. The spaces of the west wing including the stair landing, the great room, and the deck, offer various views along the creek defining the west edge of the site. Turning into the north wing, one's view is directed into the courtyard as one proceeds towards the tower stair. A final spiral into the tower makes avaiable every orientation of the site, including a powerful view of the Gulf of Mexico.
